It’s hands down, my favorite New York escape. Some people are all about East Hampton…others won’t leave the confines of Quogue…but I’m an equal opportunist when it comes to summering on the tip of Long Island. If you’re hungry, check out The Clam Bar (between Amagansett and Montauk); famous for their overstuffed lobster rolls and corn so sweet, it tastes as if they picked it moments before serving.

Caught your attention, didn’t I? The warmer weather has arrived, and New Yorkers are shedding their go-to-black for splashes of color that shake up our funereal uniform. Personally, I love wearing little cashmere cardigans in light parsley-green or bright pink in the summer. (This is not just a fashion strategy, by the way.

You know what I just don’t get? Those women who spend hours getting their hair blown out in the middle of July, so they can plant themselves on the beach and watch the humidity wreck a $100 blowout. Summer is the time to let your hair do its thing! Just make sure you protect it from the harsh rays of the sun and you’re good to go. Here’s my super-easy Rx:

1) Apply my Pre-Wash Therapy to dry hair; then twist your hair into a bun or ponytail, throw on a baseball cap…and watch those lipids, fatty acids, and proteins become your very own hot-oil treatment at the beach.

It’s incredible to see how the show Mad Men has influenced fashion and beauty over the past two years. I was just a little girl in the early 60’s, but I remember my Mom talking about the Kennedys… I remember the giant ashtrays and cocktail minibars at the office… women wearing hats while they worked… and having to don stockings even in summer.
